Layer-glazing ceramics project explores the potential of spraying slip and clay marbling, combining both techniques to create a new style of ceramic object. This method is to spray colored slips on the plaster mold to create marbling clay slabs. By using this technique, multiple layers of colors can be seen on the rim of the vase after assembling.
My project also inspired by Xiang Qi, an unique Chinese traditional technique which is still in use in Jingdezhen. Using joint slip to attach nearly bone-dry clay slabs together to make an object from 2D slab to 3D form. However, this unique traditional technique is less known in these days. I want to highlight the Xiang Qi technique and bring it back to people’s attention.
